David Wark Griffith

David Wark Griffith (1875-1948) è il padre del cinema moderno. Ha elevato il montaggio a poesia, ha reinventato l'arte di recitare per lo schermo, ha suscitato scalpore e proteste con The Birth of a Nation (1915) e con l'irripetibile esperimento di Intolerance (1916). Le centinaia di titoli da lui diretti alla Biograph (1908-1913) sono un indispensabile atlante della tecnica e dello stile prima di Hollywood. Fra gli altri suoi film: The Country Doctor (1909), The Sands of Dee (1912), The Mothering Heart (1913), Broken Blossoms (1919), True Heart Susie (1919), Way Down East (1920), The White Rose (1923).
