Dans les Asturies on parle un dialecte et on chante des romances en castillan, même phénomène a lieu dans notre pays; dans des villages où l'on parle patois en chante des chansons en français, elle sont de genre assez varié. Celles - ci, tenant de bien loin à la ballade, offrent une sorte de récit, d'action; celles - là sont dictées par la fantaisie, d'autres ont été inventées ou importées par des soldats, d'autres encore sont le re¿et de la vie privée rustique. Je voudrais pouvoir dire que mes ré cherches ont amené la trouvaille de chants historiques, mais pour la partie française et patoise de cette col lection, mes investigations dans cette voie, n'ont pas été trés heureuses.
