Wicterp (wiggol; 2) auf ihn folgte der Priester Tozzo (749 bis Bald verwischen jedoch die in Bayern und Alaman nien ausgebrochenen Empörungen gegen die Frankenherrschaft wiederum jede Kunde von der Augsburger Kirche. Erst Karl d. G. Stellte mit fester Hand Ruhe her und setzte Sintpert [778 - 808] als Bischof in Augsburg ein. Um dieselbe Zeit erhielt Augusta den deutschen Namen, Augustburg', ,haus burg' und zugleich die Bezeichnung Die Stadt ge hörte zum Augstgau (augustgowe, Ougesgowe), stand also unter der Grafengewalt und bildete die am weitesten nach Osten vor geschohene Grenze des Herzogthums Schwaben.
