Infatti i primi si rivelano con questo che, per ciascun seg mento e in certi punti determinati, le cellule ipodermiche si allungano, il loro nucleo si gonfia, ed incomincia un processo di segmentazione che si estende dall'alto in basso, dando così origine ad elementi ipodermici assai più fitti ed esili dei pre cedenti. Per una specie di azione di contatto, la tendenza di segmentarsi viene comunicata alle cellule contigue e si espande gradatamente intorno; mentre la cuticola larvale si è già prima distaccata, e sotto di essa viene maturando la buccia della crisalide.
