This book is based on a survey that was undertaken by the Canterbury Refugee Resettlement and Resource Centre (CRRRC) in the third quarter of 2017. It looks at the employment and health issues refugees' face. The recommendations are made in relation to New Zealand's Refugee Resettlement Strategy, which is administered by Immigration New Zealand. Information on this strategy is explained in the Introduction along with a review of how success is measured. This section also looks at how mental health is treated in New Zealand. The Background section considers the world refugee crisis and New Zealand's role in it. It looks at the UNHCR figures as well as the main countries from where refugees came in 2016- Syria, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Somalia, Myanmar, Sudan and Bhutan. New Zealand's immigration policy is also explained in more detail, especially the difference between convention and UN quota refugees. Finally, the report compares and contrasts the refugee policies of Australia and New Zealand. How do the two countries differ in their treatment of asylum seekers and refugees?
