This research work carries out the design of a microcontroller-based mechanism to tackle electricity theft. Overcoming losses is one of the major challenges faced by electricity utilities worldwide. Non-technical losses is of a major concern because it comes in different forms and cannot be accounted for. This work presents the need for power to be evaluated through nodal analysis which can be an invaluable tool in tackling electricity theft especially in developing countries using Nigeria as a case study. This was accomplished using MatLab2014 Simulink and the results obtained made it possible to detect electricity theft by tapping.
