The aim of this book is to identify the factors which contribute mainly to the relatively high level of maternal mortality in Tema General Hospital, Ghana. In order to get a complete picture of which factors play a role it is deemed important to focus on direct, indirect as well as underlying causes. Through this descriptive study an overview of the main causes leading to maternal death in the Tema General Hospital will be obtained, which will provide the basis for further research and the development of interventions. Furthermore, hopefully the factors will be usable in other hospitals in Ghana. In order to achieve this aim the following research questions and sub questions will be answered. The challenges faced by Tema General Hospital regarding maternal mortality are similar to those faced globally. This study has also revealed some root causes which are not commonly discussed in the literature so far.
