This book describes recent trends in growth curve modelling research in various subject areas, both theoretical and applied. It explains and explores the growth curve model as a valuable tool for gaining insights into several research topics of interest to academics and practitioners alike. The book's primary goal is to disseminate applications of the growth curve model to real-world problems, and to address related theoretical issues. The book will be of interest to a broad readership: for applied statisticians, it illustrates the importance of growth curve modelling as applied to actual field data; for more theoretically inclined statisticians, it highlights a number of theoretical issues that warrant further investigation.

List of contents

Mahalanobis Distance and Longitudinal Growth.- Optimum Designs for Pharmaceutical Experiments with Relational Constraints on the Mixing Components.- Evidence from Granger Causality and Co-integration Tests.- Growth Curve of Socio-economic Development in North Eastern Tribes.- Growth and Nutritional Status of Pre-school Children in India.- Bootstrap of Deviation Probabilities with Applications.- Mathematical Aptitude and Family Income in North Eastern Tribes.

About the author

Professor Ratan Dasgupta is a Senior Professor of Statistics at the Theoretical Statistics and Mathematics Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. His research interests include non-parametric statistics, rates of convergence in the central limit theorem, and the application of statistics to industrial quality control, biology, physics, sociology, agriculture, education, environment and other natural sciences. He has been at the forefront of promoting the theory and applications of growth curve modelling. His knowledge, expertise and extensive publication record on the topic, as well as his outstanding theoretical skills, make him uniquely qualified to edit this volume.
