Summary

In 1969 Sweden officially endorsed and implemented a governmental policy of gender equality. This book looks at and compares the development of gender concepts in Swedish and American youth. Children, ages 11 to 18 years were tested to obtain a developmental profile of changes in the components of gender concepts with age. Gender Concepts of Swedish and Amercian Youth examines the proposed goal of the Swedish policy, as well as its benefits, and affects on the lives of Swedish women and men in the workplace, education, and many varied aspects of society. It offers an evaluation of the benefits and costs of the new practices and establishes what important lessons can be learned from it.
