Excerpt from Die Briefe des Michelagniolo Buonarroti
Ich schreibe einzig, um Euch zu benachrich tigen, daß wir am vergangenen Sonnabend (zy. Juni) glücklich hier (in Rom) eingetroffen sind. Sogleich machten wir dem Kardinal von San Giorgio unsere Aufwartung, und ich uber gab ihm Buete Empfehlung. Dem Anschein nach sah er mich gern und wollte, daß ich mir unverzüglich gewisse (antike) Figuren ansähe. Das tat ich und brachte damit den ganzen Tag hin, weshalb ich an diesem Tage Euere anderen Briefe nicht mehr abgegeben habe. Am Sonntag darauf (26. Juni) kam der Kardinal in seinen neuen Palast. (die Cancelleria) und ließ mich rufen. Ich ging zu ihm, und er fragte mich, was ich von den Kunstsachen hielte, die ich gesehen. Ich sagte ihm mein Urteil darüber; und gewiß.
