L'objet de ces interpolations était de combler la lacune qui existait dans l'histoire de l'abbaye, entre l'année 962 époque où Folquin avait cessé d'écrire, et l'année 102 1 où commence le travail de son premier continuateur. L'auteur de ce supplé ment ne s'est point fait connaître, mais on verra tout à l'heure qu'il n'a pas l'autorité d'un historien contemporain.
