Critérium de Peirce. Aprés avoir dit que la méthode de Peiroe, sur laquelle on pourra consulter l'article de M. Radau (bulletin, IV, p. N'a été employée avec suite que par M. C.-a. Schott, chef des calculs du Bureau géodésique américain, M. Hall examine les deux applications qui servent d'exemples; il s'agit du diamètre de Vénus mesuré, d'une part, avec le cercle mural de l'observatoire naval, d'autre part, avec le cercle méridien. La règle de Peirce indiquerait, contraire ment aux faits établis, une plus grande précision dans le cas du cercle méridien.
