Excerpt from A Latin Composition: For Secondary Schools
This book has been prepared with the [conviction that the primary function of Latin Composition in sec ondary schools is to extend and strengthen the pupil's knowledge of Latin grammar, and that this function is best fulfilled by means of a systematic presentation of the syntactical principles of the language. The following Lessons, accordingly, are devoted mainly to exercises in applying the principles of the various case and mood constructions Tecognized in our Latin gram mars. But in order that the writing of continuous 'discourse may not be neglected, passages of simple English narrative, involving the principles covered in the previous exercises, are frequently introduced.
