Because Anza's diary A covers the whole expedition and is the most complete single account, I have inserted it first in the volume and have edited it more fully than the other diaries. In editing these others, to avoid giving in convenient cross-references, in some cases I have repeated, in briefer form, data found in the notes to diary A.
