About the author

Andrea Barrios Villarreal has a Ph.D. in international law from The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. She has also worked on standardization issues for the Mexican government, international organizations, and in the private sector, including roles as Director for International Standardization at the Mexican National Standards Body and Chair of the Codex Committee for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables.

Summary

This work examines the international standardization system generally, with a specific focus on some of the bodies within this system. It also questions the lack of definition regarding several features related to the system, notably an international standardizing body and international standards in the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade.
