Au sud et à l'ouest de la région, des roches éruptives basiques pépé trent le porphyre. Ce sont des diabases ou gabbros, généralement d'une couleur grise et à texture variant du fin au granulé. On trouve aussi dans le porphyre de nombreuses veines de quartz'; celles - ci sont aussi abondantes dans le minerai; mais elles sont rares dans le gabbro. Elles varient en épaisseur d'une fraction de pouces à plusieurs pouces.
