The author of this work has been led to its publication chie¿y through the desire of many professional friends, and he would observe, in offering it to the profession, and others connected with the measurement of water, that it has been his aim not to produce a treatise on Hydraulics, for many have been written and leave little or nothin g to be desired, but rather to introduce a number of Hydraulic Formulae applicable to almost all cases which may be met with in the actual practice of the Hydraulic Engineer.
