Yet fortune was never thrust upon me to that extent, and I could merely continue my studies in that direction, without own ing the objects of my interest. When, finally, opportunity offered itself to write a book on Shakespeare in Art, I gladly seized it, as I had been all my life some what of an art critic, and thoroughly acquainted with the subject. The result is shown in this book, for which I claim nothing but the merits of compilation.
