Il prof.ray-lankester dopo di aver espresso il suo grande compiacimento verso 10 scopritore donatore di una spe cie così rimarchevole, di cui era affatto privo il grandioso Museo di Londra, dichiarò di ritenerlo affine alle Giraffe, particolarmente a una forma estinta del genere Hella dotherium, e propose un nuovo genere col nome di Okapia.
Volendo però rispettare le singole date, cui corrispon dono le diverse comunicazioni e pubblicazioni riguardanti la nuova specie congolese, devo dire che me trovo una di data anteriore, ed è la comunicazione fatta dal Dott. P. L. Sclater alla predetta Zoological Society of London. In nu'adu nunaza che questa Società tenne il 5 febbraio 1901, ed in un processo verbale firmato dallo stesso segretario D Scla ter, trovo che questi cosi ebbe a scrivere.
