Neither the Sociedad Filarmónica hor the conservatory survived and, in 1839, José Antonio Gómez, composer and author of various works used in teach ing, founded a second Sociedad Filarmó nica, which also served as a school, and thus helped to provide Mexico with the instrumentalists it needed for the orchestras that were being sporadically organized at that time.
