Der Erfolg war ein sehr verschiedener, zunachst je nach dem Stadium, wo die Behandlung eintrat.
Nur ein paarmal gelang es, solche Kinder unter dem Gebrauche von Dampfbädern ohne Tracheotomie genesen zu sehen, bei welchen die Symptome der Stenose einen oder mehrere Tage bestanden, als sie in die Hospital behandlung traten. In der Regel wurden solche Kinder zumal bei bereits vorhandener Asphyxie überhaupt nicht in das Dampfbad gebracht; in 21 Fällen, wo es doch geschah, musste die Tracheotomie den Dampfbädern nach folgen.
