Deutschland and die Deutschen aims to portray to the American student from the German standpoint the country and the manners and customs of the people with whom it deals. In order that the text might not contain merely a series of perfunctory chapters on various phases of German life, the actual experiences of one of the authors during his residence in Germany as an exchange teacher have been utilized. The amount of space devoted to each topic is largely determined by the extent to which it enters into the life of the German people.
