Quand un corps en repos est abandonné à lui-même, il reste indéfiniment en repos. Quand le corps, au contraire, passe de l'état de repos à l'état de mouvement, il ne peut le faire que sous l'in¿uence d'une cause étrangère qu'on appelle force.
