Per questo conto Las Casas, sebbene ecclesia stico, fu assai diverso da Colombo. Le dottrine che gl' Indiani dovessero essere un poco inciviliti prima di venir convertiti, e anche il battesimo essere posposto all' istruzione, dottrine che sarebbero state pronta mente accolte dal buon vescovo, avrebbero trovato mal riscontro nella soldatesca teologia di Colombo.
