Le 4 septembre, le Sénat, lui, avait été oublié. Des ¿ots de peuple en marche vers le Corps législatif, avaient passé devant le Luxembourg, le bataillon même de garde nationale chargé de protéger le palais abandonnant son poste, s'en était allé avec le peu pie sans que personne eut la pensée d'entrer au Sénat pour l'envahir. Les sénateurs restés pendant la journée en séance avaient continué à crier Vive l'em pereur. Le Sénat fut aboli par décret du nouveau gouvernement.
