Vlad's cousin Lupus comes to stay, with the idea being that the vampiric qualities which come naturally to Lupus will rub off on Vlad. However, Vlad is predominantly concerned with keeping Lupus from following him as he starts human school. A shy vampire amounts to a distinctive slant on the start-of-school nerves book.
