La sezione trasversale della fronda fertile ha forma lineare-an cipite. Midollo di fili ialini O pallidissimamente acetini, trasversali, moniliformi, contesti con altri più sottili; strato intermedio di cellule mediocri, oblunghe in 1 - 2 serie, disposte parallelamente alla base dello strato corticale. Cortice denso, intensamente porporino-vinaceo scuretto, composto di cellule minutissime disposte in linee verticali strettamente affiancate. Sostanza quasi cornea nel secco, carnoso tenace in seguito al bagno.
