Sotto la Rocca di Ripafratta, ed in qualche altro lembo isolato delle colline che stanno sulla riva sinistra del Serchio, nonchè nel Monte della Torre Segata sulla riva opposta dello stesso fiume, si trova una forma zione di macigno, la quale, giacendo in trasgressione sulle rocce sotto stanti (galestro e calcare screziato), forma un sinclinale perfetto tra il Monte Pisano e le ultime propaggini delle Alpi Apuane.
