About the author

June Tate was born in Southampton and spent the early years of her childhood in the Cotswolds. After leaving school she became a hairdresser on cruise ships the Queen Mary and the Mauretania, meeting many Hollywood film stars and VIPs on her travels. After her marriage to an airline pilot, she lived in Sussex and Hampshire before moving to Estoril in Portugal, and then back to Sussex. June passed away in 2019.

Summary

Southampton, 1912. At just 19, Jessie opts not to follow her mother back to Ireland, preferring to take charge of her own destiny. When she takes over the running of the cafe she works in, it seems everything is coming together. But destiny and a pushy businessman have other ideas. Will she find the strength to keep fighting for the life she wants?
