Excerpt from The Planning of Ornament

The second of a series of Text Books stands scarcely in need of preface. The aim and scope, as well as the origin, of this series were duly set forth in 'the Anatomy of Pattern.' What was there said applies for the most part to the present volume.

A new edition gives me the opportunity of revising both the text and illustrations, and of adding some new plates.

It is encouraging to find that the demand for the Text Books is not exhausted with the first issue, and that they appear to be fulfilling the purpose I had in view in under taking them.
