It seems almost inexcusable that I have said nothing about South Africa, the nursery of the googly; but though I have played there and, indeed, made a century at Krugersdorp against the garrison some twenty years ago, the ap pearance of the South African Elevens in Test Matches was too late for me to have any active experience of their cricket.
