Twelve years had passed since the Chris tian had come among the Indians. He knew their tongue, and, from the long habit Of speaking that only, he was more than four days among us before he could connect an idea without putting to every word Of Span ish four or five words of Indian, though he came after a while to recover our speech en tirely.
