Excerpt from The Second Maiden's Tragedy: 1611

In the present edition the lines of the manuscript have been consecutively numbered, including every line, whether deleted or not, written by the original scribe, and also the marginal additions, but excluding the additions or corrections inserted on separate slips. These have been printed at the foot of the page, below the portion of the text to which they belong, and have been given a subordinate numbering represented by superior figures. It may be remarked that the slips now forming fols. 31 and 46 were once one piece of paper, the tom of the letters of the first line on the latter, which are cut off, being traceable at the foot of the former. It is possible that all the slips were cut from a single sheet, but the others cannot now be fitted together.
