Excerpt from A Little Treatise on the Little Virtues: Written Originally in Italian

When, in the course of the last year, you made to God the entire and public consecration of yourself, I published, on the solemnity of which you were the object, the eulogium of St. Jane Frances de Chantal, with a Letter on Happiness. Now that you are about to consummate your sacrifice by the holy vows, I will not remain an idle spectator, satisfied with interiorly participating in your joy, but giving no outward expres sion to my feelings: I will not as cend to the temple with empty hands.
