Excerpt from Text-Book of the Jewish Religion

The text-book of the Jewish Religion which is here with offered to the Jewish public is an outline of a larger work which the author has prepared on the same subject. It is, however, complete in itself, and con tains as much as we should like our younger children to know of our Holy Religion. Due regard has been paid to the Chief Rabbi's Code, which determined the substance and the form of this volume. A complete index shows how to use it for each standard; but the author did not deem it advisable to restrict the book exclusively to the requirements of the Code. The latter may be modified; the progress of the Hebrew classes may, and we hope will, in course of time demand a higher standard. It was, therefore, preferred to give a short but complete exposition of the principles and the precepts of our Religion, in such a manner that the book may also be used as a guide for more advanced pupils.
