In quel suo scritto, che vedremmo volentieri tradotto in italiano, egli, convinto dall'esame di quei vetusti monumenti del nostro primato sul mare, e da quello dei documenti raccolti negli Atti della Società ligure di storia patria ed altrove, dai signori Belgrano, De Simone, Uzielli, Amm, Graberg di Hemsò, ecc., riconosce e sostiene apertamente l' in¿uenza ac cennata, fermandosi segnatamente sopra il Portogallo. Siccome tuttavia egli non tratta che una parte della questione, e, per necessità del suo assunto, non cita, o cita soltanto di volo, molti fatti e particolari, ci sembra opportuno il parlarne al quanto più estesamente, sebbene non ancora tanto come pur desidereremmo fosse in poter nostro.
