Excerpt from Practical and Experimental Religion, or the Teachings and Tendencies of Universalism: Designed as a Companion to the "Christian Comforter"
Tns Teachings of Universalism unfold the high est order of facts in the most important of all relations; and the Tendencies of those facts, when they are received into the soul and made a part of the very being of the believer, are to every thing good, beautiful and true; begetting right thought, feeling and action; harmonizing faith and reason, piety and morality; and making the disciple a true follower and imitator of Jesus Christ.
Thus believing, the Author of this volume offers to the solemn consideration of the Reader, his thoughts on Practical and Experimental Religion, desiring to present something suited to the times and calculated to benefit man in promoting his highest and best interests. He trusts that he has not been presumptuous in this attempt; and resting in his intentions and aims, he sends forth the work with the hope that it will do good, and that the blessing of God will rest upon it.
