La fondazione di un Orto Botanico da servire alla pubblica istruzione in una tanto celebre Università mi diede l' obbligo di studiare sulla scelta del luogo, il quale non doveva trovarsi verso il centro del paese, nè molto distante dal medesimo per l' accesso degli studiosi e per l' utile del pubblico, che nella freàuenza dei Gabinetti, dei Musei, delle Biblioteche e degli Orti Botanici riceve istruzione e - vorrei anco dire civiltà.
