I capitoli II e III (in¿uenza generale delle condi zioni fisiche, generalità sugli organismi bentonici) il capitolo IV (biologia del plancton) ed il VII (fauna abissale) sono desunti da libri e memorie recenti di bio logia marina; non ho tuttavia mancato di aggiungervi alcune notizie, sopratutto per quanto si riferisce in modo particolare al Mediterraneo in generale ed al Mare Li gure in particolare. Nella parte che passa in rassegna alcuni tipi di organismi planctonici (capitoli V e VI) ho tratto largo profitto dalla pratica acquistata a Quarto dei Mille in due anni di pesche planotoniche metodica mente eseguite.
