A ces trois considérations, tirées de l'expérience, il faut en ajouter une autre, plus profonde et plus philosophique, donnée par Berkeley, le vrai auteur de la théorie dont il s'agit. Cette raison que nous déve lopperons plus loin et que nous nous contentons ici d'indiquer, c'est qu'on ne peut pas voir la distance, parce qu'une distance n'est qu'un rapport, un intervalle, et qu'un rapport, un intervalle ne peut pas être l'objet d'une perception.
