Ce volume reproduit la sténographie de mon cours de 1889 - 90. J'ai passé prés de deux ans à le transcrire et le documenter, remplaçant d'une manière constante les références du manuscrit par les plus récentes. Si grande que soit la masse des matériaux nouveaux, je n'ai eu presque rien à changer au fond ni à la forme. J'ai seulement adouci l'emphase oratoire de certains passages. Ce qui impressionne le plus au cours gagne quelquefois à être écrit autrement.
