Excerpt from Selections From Coleridge's Poems, And, Macaulay's Essay on Warren Hastings: Prescribed for Matriculation Into the University of Toronto, and for Teachers' Examinations, 1886
Some critical remarks have been added along with a sketch of the author's life but the best criticism will be found in a study of the' author's works. A sketch of literary history is inserted, not because the annotator thinks such history is of value in education, but because the departmental examinations seem to require it. Such a study is almost worthless when unaccompanied with a personal knowledge of the works of the authors referred to.
