Excerpt from La Penisola di Sorrento
Omero parlando de' nostri luoghi conserva loro i nomi che ave vano, i quali non son certamente greci, e nè di greca gente egli nel suo poema fa menzione che abitassero in questi luoghi. Al lorché i greci vennero sulla penisola di Sorrento dovettero con servare gli stessi nomi alle città trovate edificate ed ecco come conservarono nel prosieguo il primitivo nome dato loro dai Fenici.
