De la mise en oeuvre du plan Marshall à la création de l'Union européenne, en passant par la fondation du Conseil de l'Europe, de l'OTAN, de l'AELE et de l'OSCE, le processus d'intégration européenne est marqué par des avancées et des ralentissements, des progrès et des crises. Fruit d'un colloque scientifique organisé par la Fondation Jean Monnet pour l'Europe et consacré aux différentes « Formes d'Europe », ce volume retrace l'histoire et l'évolution des principales organisations qui forment l'ossature institutionnelle de la construction européenne. Reliant les approches historiques et les réflexions sur les grands enjeux politiques, économiques et culturels, il entend, en plus de l'analyse des crises multiples et profondes que traverse l'Europe, formuler des pistes permettant d'envisager un avenir pour le continent. Les auteurs n'hésitent pas à remettre en question de fausses certitudes et s'interrogent sur les perspectives du projet d'une Europe unie, sur sa légitimité démocratique et sa capacité d'action sur les plans intérieur et extérieur.
From the Marshall Plan to the creation of the EU, as well as the foundation of the Council of Europe, NATO, EFTA and OSCE, the process of European integration has always been characterised by advances and slowdowns, by progress and crises. This volume presents the history and evolution of the main organisations forming the institutional backbone of European construction. It is based on the colloquium « Forms of Europe » organised by the Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe in Lausanne. The authors make use of a historical approach and explore the major institutional, political, economic and cultural challenges as well as the multiple and deep crises faced by contemporary Europe. By questioning false certainties and opening up perspectives on the future of the Union, they reflect on the complexities of the integration process, its democratic legitimacy and Europe's capacity to remain a strong actor on the continent and in the world.
