Excerpt from The Autobiography of George Harris, LL. D., F. S. An., Of the Middle Temple, Barrister-at-Law

HE learned author of these memoirs, feeling the failure of his own powers, has asked me to add a few words of preface. I undertake the duty with pleasure and pain: pleasure in that I am about to help an old friend whose studies have, in many ways, run parallel with my own; pain in that he is himself unable to give the finishing touch to a work which he is desirous of leaving behind him as a token of remembrance to those who have known him best, and who have read his many essays with interest and satisfaction.
