Da uns für verwandtschaftliche Verhältnisse von Völkern in der Regel die Sprache am besten den Weg zeigt, so werden wir auch hier mit der sprachlichen Untersuchung beginnen. Isolieren wir die sprachliche Betrachtung vorläufig gänzlich von der ethnologischen, so dürfte das hoffentlich auch die jenigen beruhigen, die etwa von einer vorschnellen Hinein tragung ethnologischer Gesichtspunkte in das sprachliche Pro blem Schaden für die Lösung des letzteren befürchten sollten.
