Igneous rocks are also called as primary rocks and are the chief constituent of the earth crust. Igneous petrology is a core branch of the earth science which deals with the origin, occurrence, classification, composition and distribution of igneous rocks in the earth crust. The study of igneous rocks is very much essential not only for Geologists but also for Civil Engineers and Mining Engineers. About the author










Neeraj Vishwakarma (M.Tech., Ph.D.) is Assistant Professor in Department of Applied Geology, National Institute of Technology, Raipur, India. He has 9 years of teaching experience and published more than 15 research papers in various Journals of National and International level. His research areas are Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry.
