About the author

Bonnie Grubman grew up with a love of reading. As a child, she lived in an apartment with her family, pet turtles, and a parakeet. On hot summer nights, she would cool off on the fire escape with a flashlight and a big stack of books. Bonnie went to nursing school, but later decided to trade her nurse's hat for a classroom full of picture books. She was inspired by her students who found joy and curiosity in everything they saw. Because of these kids, and for all kids, she became a writer. Bonnie lives in Syosset, New York.Suzanne Diederen (1974) received an education at the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design. She specialized in illustrating children’s books and picture books. Her works have been translated into German, Swedish, Danish, French, English, Italian, Spanish and Korean. When she isn't doing yoga or having fun with her son Gilles and her daughter Sophie, she can be found working illustrations for a new picture book.

Summary

“Are you looking for brand new children's books about big and small? Bonnie Grubman's Just The Right Size is the perfect 2018 animal picture book. With characters that you just want to cuddle right off of the pages, learn Goldilocks-style what is big enough, small enough, and just right.” - The Uncorked Librarian
Did you know a ladybug is just the right size to land on the branch of a tree? That would be difficult for a giraffe. But then, a giraffe is just the right size to reach the highest branches. Did you know that a frog is small enough to perch on a lily pad? A hippopotamus is not (obviously), but he is big enough to scare even a crocodile away! In her latest picture book, Bonnie Grubman explores the basic concepts of big and small by putting all sorts of living creatures in odd oppositions. And you? What are YOU just the right size for?
A sweet picture book about being tall and being small. And about hugging! For everybody who loves a cuddle, ages 3 years and up

Additional text

Praise for THE ONLY WAY I CAN: "Makes an effective case for recognizing one’s talents and approaching goals and challenges from a different perspective.” -- Publishers Weekly "The Only Way I Can is a story of self-acceptance and imagination, with beautiful backgrounds and warm colors. The illustrated endpaper spreads bring readers into the story setting and gently let them leave when the book ends. A good storytime book about accepting oneself and one’s limits while celebrating the bravery of taking chances.” — Mom Read It blog "This beautifully-illustrated book shows the wonders of finding out what you were born to do, and then doing it well. In its own special way it would work for a lesson on Growth Mindset, specifically on deciding when it might be time to try for a more realistic goal.... especially love the positive ending with its bits of gratitude and humor." -- Kiss the Book librarian reviews "This would make an excellent storytime read as its subtle message about how we're all good at different things will shine through.” — Leanne Millman, Crooked Tree Library “A cute story about appreciating our individual strengths.” — Magy Vaughan, elementary reading specialist
