Excerpt from Das Karwendelgebirge
Im Westen und Norden ist das Karwendelgebirge vom Isar thai, im Süden vom Innthal und im Osten vom Achenthal begrenzt. Letzteres war früher ein Seitenthal des Innthales, hat sich aber in Folge der Abdämmung des Achensees zu einem Seitenthal der Isar umgewandelt, so dass gegenwärtig fast alle Gewässer, die im Westen, Norden und Osten aus dem Karwendelgebirge ab¿iessen, in die Isar rinnen. Mit Recht kann man darum dieses Gebirge als das Quell gebiet der Isar bezeichnen. Zum Inngebiet rechnet nur der schmale Streifen, welcher durch eine Linie begrenzt wird, die man vom Stanserjoch über die Gipfel der Ketten bis zum Solstein in ungefähr paralleler Richtung zum Inn zieht.
