Jacques - Auguste de Thon, le célèbre historien, eau le troisième fils de Christophe de Thot], premier président au Parlement de Paris (t). Destiné d'abord à l'état ecclésiastique, il passa ses pre mières années dans le cloître de Notre - Dame. Auprès de Nicolas de Thon, son oncle, qui était chanoine de cette église et conseiller au Parlement. Celui - ci, nommé bientot évêque de Chartres, laissa le canonicnt à son neveu qui le conserva près de quatorze ans. Ce fut la, en 1573, que de Thon, agé de 20 ans à peine, commença à ras ...lor cette bibliotheque qui étai appelée à devenir l'une des plus célèbres du. Xm° siècle.
